Don’t want to do that? Well, OK then. You can just find a nice, quiet area to sit quietly. Focus on your breath and observe your thoughts for a few minutes. Nice, huh?

Why not tie your meditation practice in with your gratitude journal? You could keep a note each day of how you feel after meditating.

Schedule in five or ten minutes to meditate every day—morning, afternoon or night—and stick to the appointment.

Jimi Hunt, a good friend of mine and founder of mental health non-profit Live More Awesome, has some great advice. He says he doesn’t necessarily enjoy meditation, but he does it every day for the benefits he experiences. (You can find Jimi on Instagram @thejimihunt.)

Another good tip from Jimi is to put your headphones on first thing in the morning, before you’ve even got out of bed, and play some calming music. It’s a much better way to start your day than scrolling through social media.
